1. SEBI eases margins on some cash-market trades after early pay-in

SEBI’s October 22 circular permits accepted early pay-in (EPI) of securities sold against a net sell settlement obligation to count toward a client’s subsequent cash-segment positions on the same trade date, up to the accepted EPI value. The clearing corporation calculates eligible value in real time as the lower of the EPI completed and the value of securities sold. This is targeted margin treatment—not a blanket waiver for every trade or a licence to take unfunded positions.

If the client squares off the sale that qualified for EPI, the EPI value is removed; any resulting shortfall can be blocked from the trading or clearing member’s proprietary collateral. The circular excludes trade-for-trade securities from that particular condition. Brokers must allow the client to square off or take another position only when the required client margin is available. The framework takes effect four months after issuance—February 22, 2027—giving exchanges, clearing corporations and brokers time to update systems. For eligible same-day trades, it may reduce duplicate margin demands, but investors should not assume every follow-on position qualifies. SEBI’s circular sets out the operative conditions.

2. SEBI flags stock tips in invitation-only WhatsApp groups

A separate SEBI press release dated October 22 is titled “Caution to Investors against Stock Tips offered through Invitation-only WhatsApp Groups.” It is an investor warning, not a new rule for payment apps or a general ban on private messaging. The format itself offers no assurance that a tipster is registered, that a claim is reliable, or that a promised return is real. Investors should verify advice and intermediaries through official SEBI channels rather than treating an invitation or a group’s apparent exclusivity as evidence of credibility. The warning is especially pertinent when a message urges immediate action or asks users to move money through a broker or investment app. SEBI’s advisory is the primary source.

3. RBI keeps Suri co-operative bank directions in force

RBI has extended its directions on The Suri Friends’ Union Co-operative Bank in Suri, West Bengal, for a further three months: from close of business on October 22, 2026, through close on January 22, 2027, subject to review. The original directions date to July 2022; the October decision extends the existing framework rather than announcing a fresh set of conditions. RBI says the extension should not be read as satisfaction with the bank’s financial position, and that the other terms remain unchanged.

For customers, the practical point is continuity: the earlier restrictions still apply during the extension. This notice does not itself say that access to deposits has improved or that the bank’s licence has been cancelled. Customers should check the original directions and the bank’s official notices for the specific terms that apply to their accounts. RBI’s October 22 release contains the extension dates and statutory basis.

UPI and funding check

No newer NPCI/UPI implementation date surfaced in this scan. NPCI’s October 13 statement deferred the proposed MDR on select person-to-merchant payments until immediately after Diwali, with a date to be notified separately. The NPCI press-release index did not return usable article text through this fetch, so the absence of a newly indexed update is not proof that none exists.

The funding search did not surface a distinct new fintech round beyond Karta AI’s $3 million seed raise, already covered in the October 22 brief. Inc42’s report did not disclose a valuation. No new funding amount or valuation is therefore reported today.
