RBI Launches ‘Finquiry’ — Structured Fintech Engagement on July 31

The Reserve Bank of India has invited fintech companies to a structured interaction event called ‘Finquiry’, scheduled for July 31, 2026, from 3 PM to 5 PM in Mumbai. Registration closes today at 6 PM.

The event is expected to cover tokenization, regulatory compliance frameworks, and broader fintech-banking integration topics. This signals RBI’s continued push toward proactive engagement with the fintech ecosystem rather than purely top-down regulation.

For fintechs operating in payments, lending, and digital assets, this is a meaningful signal — the central bank wants dialogue, not just directives. Registration is through the RBI’s official channels. Source: RBI on X

India’s GDP Growth Forecast Slashed to 6.6% on Oil Shock and Weak Investment

A Reuters poll of 42 economists (conducted July 21–27) projects India’s GDP growth at 6.6% in FY27, down sharply from 7.7% in FY26, with only a modest recovery to 6.8% in FY28. The twin headwinds: weak private investment and elevated oil prices tied to the Iran conflict.

The rupee, however, caught a break — RBI likely intervened in the forex market on July 28, with dollar sales and slumping oil prices helping the currency build on a rally. The central bank is also expected to hold rates through 2026, prioritizing growth risks over inflation. Source: Reuters · Source: Economic Times

Krutrim’s Third Round of Layoffs — 200+ Departures and Counting

Ola’s AI venture Krutrim has conducted its third round of layoffs, cutting nearly 50 employees from the linguistics team. Total departures now exceed 200 people across multiple rounds since June, including senior leadership exits.

The company has pivoted from its ambitious full-stack AI roadmap (including the Bodhi 1 chip) toward AI cloud services, reporting 3x revenue growth and its first net profit in FY26. But the continued workforce reduction — particularly from the linguistics team that once had 600+ people training Indic-language models — raises questions about whether India’s homegrown AI race can sustain its talent intensity.
